The use of botulinum toxin in cosmetic dermatology is easy, fast and safe to perform. With it, mild facial wrinkles can be lessened for months or even completely eliminated. How does Botox work?

Botulinum toxin inhibits the transmission of nerve impulses to the facial muscles but also to sweat glands. This leads to a lower activity of these and as a result to a relaxed wrinkle-free skin or to a lower sweat secretion. There are various preparations available whose active ingredient is botulinum toxin, for simplicity, the substance is often called shortened Botox.

In addition, Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating (underarm area, hands, feet). The toxin inhibits the activity of the local sweat glands. The treatment is very effective and has a side effect compared to surgical measures.

 

How is a Botox treatment done?

The injection takes place directly into the treatment area with very fine needles. The pain is minimal in this way. Depending on the extent of treatment, it takes 15-30min. Anesthesia is usually not required. The full effectiveness of Botox treatment becomes visible after 2-10 days and usually lasts 3-6 months. The effectiveness in the area of ​​the sweat glands is usually longer compared to the muscles.

 

What are the risks and side effects of Botox treatment?

The side effects are low when used properly. It can come to small hematomas (blue spots). There may be asymmetries in the area of ​​the facial muscles, but these can usually be eliminated without any problems by a correction treatment. In very rare cases, a ptosis (hanging eyelid) may occur.
